Percussion Group

Percussion Group

Join our weekly percussion group for a fun, low-pressure drum circle experience! Led by instructor Destin LeCornu, ages and skill levels are welcome. No prior percussion experience is required.

Why join our percussion group?

In many cultures, making music together is a part of everyday life. More than just an artform and means of communication, music is also therapeutic. It creates focus, builds community, and helps release anxiety and stress. Making music is one of the few social activities that engages both hemispheres of the brain simultaneously and equally — the left side for abstract thinking and dexterity, and the right side for creativity and socio-emotional functioning. In other words, it's hard not to feel good after making music with others. You're not only operating at your peak capacity — you're watching everyone else do the same!

In our society, however, most people rarely, if ever, get to make music with others. Lack of proficiency and busy schedules are often barriers to entry. We want to change that! For 45 minutes a week, anyone is welcome to join in on the rhythm. This is not a conventional class with a curriculum — think of it more like weekly exercise, where the goal is to stimulate the body and mind. For students who struggle with attention, this will be a blast! Abstract concepts and delayed gratification will be kept to a minimum. We will mostly just play, allowing students will learn in the most natural, intuitive, hands-on way possible.

Percussion Group is a seasonal class. The next group will start in December in preparation for our Christmas Recitals. Signups are open now.
